From her drop-dead gorgeous looks to her shockingly funny sense of humor, Jennifer Lawrence has all the necessary requirements to be my new girl crush. Her Best Actress – Musical or Comedy acceptance speech for her role in ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ was hilarious - “Oh, what does it say, ‘I beat Meryl‘?” – and produced one of the best moments of the night. I can’t wait to see the movie and I’m already rooting for her in the Oscar race.
As my tagline states, I love pop. And that’s not my Michigan roots referring to Diet Coke. Pop culture is a huge part of my daily escape and I hope to share that here on this space. Awards season has officially begun and I’m kicking things off with a recap of the Golden Globes!

I’m still working through the rules of re-posting photos here, so to be safe I made a Pinterest board of all my favorite red carpet looks from my favorite ladies, favorite dudes, and favorite couples. Check them out here. Who’s your favorite?
Favorite Moments
Let’s be honest, awards shows are not about who wins or loses (if it was, we’d all be happy with reading a list of winners and moving on). Here are some of my favorite moments from last night’s show:
- Tina and Amy killed it during the show opener – I think I might have Tarantino-filled nightmares, too, now that the image has been put in my head.
- Those two in the audience as fake nominees was a light break during typically serious moments – and Amy canoodling with George Clooney was just perfect.
- Adele’s speech was reminiscent of her Grammys speeches last year – super adorable and likeable and you just know that she deserves everything she’s getting.
- My favorite joke had to be Tina’s dig at Taylor Swift. I only wish they had shown her reaction, which I can assume was not pleasant.
- May I submit a suggestion to the Hollywood Foreign Press? Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger should be hosts in 2014. We should start a petition because their banter was fantastic.
- Ben Affleck was adorble during his win for Best Director, but I hope I wasn’t the only one who noticed the handy camerawork of the Golden Globes crew – switching to a shot that showed Ben on the stage and his ex Jennifer Lopez giving him a standing ovation.
- While it started off extremely weird and uncomfortable, Jodie Foster’s acceptance speech for the Cecil B. DeMille award ended beautifully on a sweet but somber note when she spoke to her mother, who suffers from dementia. You can watch the whole thing here.
Since I haven’t seen quite a few of these movies yet I should withhold judgement. ‘Les Miserables’ and ‘Argo’ are at the top of my list and both took home the Best Picture awards. You can see a list of all the winners here.
I feel like this deserves an entirely separate post, but I need to discuss HBO’s ‘Girls’ – it’s like I’m reliving the hype around ‘Bridesmaids’ all over again… I just don’t get it. There’s no convincing me that Lena Dunham deserved that award over Tina Fey or Amy Poehler. But more power to her for being a young, successful woman and doing what she loves.
What did you think of the show? Did your favorites win?
